Welcome to another wonderful edition of power points to successful living! In today’s session, we will be finding out our God-given purpose and how to walk in it. Be blessed!
Genesis 1:28 [MSG] says, “And God said to them, be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]and have dominion over all the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and over every living creature that moves upon the earth.”
From this we can infer that the first purpose given to man is SERVICE. Service means the work performed by one that serves. It could also mean help or contribution to the welfare of others or being at disposal for use. Until you find out how you can be of service to God and humanity you have not discovered your purpose.
God is not interested in an idle man, when He created man, He gave him a responsibility. The Bible says in Genesis 2:15 [MSG] the Bible says, “God took the man and set him down in the garden of Eden to work the ground and keep it in order.”
Two things that awe must note is that the first service is to God, in the book of 1Peter 2:9 [NKJV] “But you are a chosen generation, a priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” And in that service to God there is only one thing that God expects of you and it is to obey His laws and commandments. The Bible records that God said about David, “I have found a man after my heart who will obey my commandments.”
The question then becomes, what does it take to be the man after God’s heart? Obey His laws and commandments! It is that simple. In obeying God’s laws and commandments He also relinquishes wisdom to us because just as the King Solomon said in 2Chronicles 1:10 [NKJV] “Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can govern this people of yours?” You cannot serve God effectively without wisdom and thank God that Jesus Christ is our wisdom.
The second service is to man. Humanity after serving God is our next point of call. You would realize while serving God that most of the service that you would render to God would be for the service of humanity. The first service that we need to perform to man is to love him, because I tell you, you cannot serve God in spirit and in truth without loving your neighbor. 1John 4:11 [KJV] says, “Beloved if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.’’ For you to understand how much loving man is in being of service to him, the Lord Jesus Christ in the book of Mark 12:30-31 [KJV] said, “And thy shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment, and the second is alike, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
Your service to man is born out of your love and care for him, I will say this again you cannot serve man without loving and caring for him and in loving and caring for man you discover your purpose on the face of the earth.
- For the next week, intentionally go out of your way to serve others.
